AFTER performing their religious duties in a few neighbouring gurdwara sahib for three years, some 150 Sikhs in Lahat will soon have their own place of worship.
They are looking forward to the completion of the new gurdwara sahib, which would be ready by April next year.

Gurdwara committee member Pritam Singh said the Sikh community used to gather at the gurdwara sahib in Lahat before it was infested with termites.
“We realised that the building might collapse at anytime and decided to stop using the 70-year-old temple, which was a brick-and-wooden structure.
“Since 2010, we have been attending prayers and functions at the gurdwara sahib in Menglembu and Pusing,” he said.
Pritam said the committee had recently come up with a building project and demolished the existing temple in June this year.
There would be a prayer hall, a kitchen, two hostel rooms for the priest and visitors in the new temple, he said.
He said the project costs about RM630,000.
“We managed to raise RM260,000, of which, RM50,000 was an allocation from Second Finance Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Husni Hanadzlah.
“We are grateful for all the donations,” he said.
Pritam Singh said the committee was also in the midst of seeking financial assistance from other gurdwara sahib in the country.
The contractor, he said, had completed the groundwork of the new gurdwara and would soon be building the walls.
He said the congregation had gathered at the site to pray for the project on Oct 10.
